Habits
-sociable animals
-live in groups 15-200 members
-each group atleast one adult male, five + adult females and their young
-spend most time looking in forest for food
-while looking warn each other about predetores by crowing and grunting sounds
-rest at intervals
-adults groom each other while yound play

Food and Feeding
-eat fruits, leaves, roots, seeds, insects, eggs and small animals
-begin looking for food after daybreak
-find most food under stones & among plants
-fruit trees source
-alert to seasonal sources of food -adept at foraging cause fingers work in co-ordinated fashion
-can dig, sort, prepare food & transfer to mouth

Breeding
-dominant male has acess to all in harem
-he mates randomly when female is in estrus
-during estrus, females sex organ swollen, showing ready to mate.
-7 months gestation before young is born.
-newborn travels everywhere with mother clinging tightly to her chest
-females remain with group forever where as males leave group when they reach maturity

-largest of all monkeys
-sometimes feed on items other monkeys drop from trees
-walk on fingers and toes
-typically roams over five miles a day while foraging for food
-sociable animals
-they have three calls for contact, alarm, and banding together
-females are half the size and weight of males
-colouration on face and rump helps identify one another while foraging
-when mandrill bares its teeth it is not threatening to attack but showing a submissive behavior
